I love the Southeast. There is nothing like showing up for a local race and there were 95 guys in a field. It is just awesome, there was a cool announcer, a beer tent, and live music. Anyway the crit a typical four corner with a slight hill on the backstretch and a false flat the finish. I was excited to race. I line up at the start and there are 12 Bianchi/Hincapie racers, 12!!! This is the team that Garrett Wonders was on. There was also some guy from Discovery named George Hincapie there, this guy seemed quite popular with the spectators.
So the race started and Bianchi launced attack after attack. I stayed at the front the entire race, just beating myself like a red-headed stepchild. I heard my name and Savagehill cycling over the loudspeaker a bunch. With 2 to Scottie Weiss (bianchi) took off and got a gap. I attacked with one to go and almost caught him, but them blew up about 50 yards from the finish. A couple people went by, but I managed to hold on for 5th, barely. I was a great event, the organizers derserve a big hand for putting it on and making it run smoothly.
