I actually thought this was a cat 1/2/3 when I entered it but as it turns out it was a cat 1/2, oh well. Somewhere around about 28-30 km into the race I was suffering pretty bad. I had passed a rider only to see someone nipping at my heels when I came around the next turn, at least it wasn't the guy I had just passed. As it turns out it was actually the guy who started 1 minute behind me. When he caught me it woke me up mentally and I began to push the pace again. I stayed within about 5 bike lengths of him the rest of the way to finish with a new PR on the course of 57:42. Talking to the rider who caught me afterwards, he'd been using me as a rabbit all day slowly reeling me in, then knowing I was sticking on him he kept his pace high. 2nd in the cat 1/2, I would have been 2nd in the cat 3 as well and ended up 9th in the overall.
